Immigration Documentary Screening Oct. 29 at Hope Church

The Hope Church will host a screening of the 90-minute documentary Harvest of Empire on Oct. 29, 6:30 pm, at the Sturgeon Bay Library.

Many immigrants from South America come to America to escape extreme poverty and violence. Learn how the United States contributed to the conditions of violence, corruption and poverty that many citizens of these nations are so desperate to escape.

Produced in 2012, Harvest of Empire is based on the book of the same title by journalist Juan Gonzalez and contains graphic scenes that are not appropriate for young children. A discussion of the film and the humanitarian crisis at the Mexico border will follow. A person with volunteer experience assisting refugee families in El Paso will share his and others’ experiences.
