Artists Guild in Sturgeon Bay announces the May topic for the Art Speak lecture series is Impressionists. The lecture is scheduled for May 18, 10 am – 12 pm. In the 19th century a group of artists rebelled against the French Academy and created the most famous of artistic movements, Impressionism. Adjunct professor of Art History Jennifer Aldrich will speak and lead a discussion about these renowned painters. This program is free and open to the public.
For those who are short on space or need a meeting place to work with artist friends, Artists Guild has a solution, Open Studio on Mondays and Thursdays beginning May 20. The newly renovated, well-lit studios contain easels, tables, chairs and sinks. Artists bring their own materials and there is ample space to create and commune. The cost is $20 for using the studio between 9:30 am and 5:30 pm; frequent user passes will also be available.
“Working with Watercolors” is the theme for May’s Art Fundamentals class on May 25, 10 am – 12 pm. Sarah and Jeff Bradley will teach participants basic techniques of this time-honored medium and lead them through painting a watercolor of their own. The cost is $30 and includes all materials. Pre-registration is required by May 23.
