Imuka Singers Perform in Door County

All the way from the shores of Africa’s Lake Victoria to the shores of Lake Michigan, the Imuka Singers will bring a multitude of musical talents to share with Door County on July 9 at the Door Community Auditorium. Rare singing techniques, electrifying choreography, robust hand drumming and percussion sounds will fill the auditorium. Traditional dancing techniques adapted from the oldest east African folk songs and dances will be on display during their mesmerizing performance.

Currently on a two-month U.S. tour and just back from San Francisco, audiences are responding with acclamations of praise. Imuka is comprised of highly talented musicians and dancers representing a dozen community groups from Bukoba, Tanzania. In Africa, music has proven to be one of the most powerful tools in transforming people’s lives socially, spiritually and economically. Proceeds from the tour will return with Imuka to Africa for community health, education and micro-enterprise initiatives in Bukoba.

The performance will begin at 7:30 pm. Tickets are $20 for adults, $10 for students and $45 for a family 4-pack. For more information or to purchase tickets call 920.868.2728 or visit http://www.dcauditorium.org.
