Inaugural “Day for Kids” Saturday in Sturgeon Bay

The Boys & Girls Club of Door County will host its inaugural “Day for Kids” event on Sept. 12, 9am – 1 pm, at the club’s Third Avenue location in downtown Sturgeon Bay. The event will include an open house to highlight the new renovations which have taken place during the past several months, including a grand opening of the newly renovated teen center.

“We are thrilled to have the community come see the progress that has been made with the club,” said Julie Davis, executive director of the Boys & Girls Club of Door County. “With the generous support of our community, we have truly been able to create a home-like environment for the youth of Door County.”

The newly renovated Teen Center was made possible by contributions in memory of Robert Knapp. The new center will be designated the Robert Knapp Teen Center in his honor.

“We are deeply touched by the amount of support our family has received for this project,” said Mark Knapp, development director of the Boys & Girls Club of Door County, and Robert’s brother. “The new teen center is a perfect way to honor Robert’s memory and how he lived his life. We hope the center will provide a foundation that inspires teens to lead the same kind of positive, productive lives.”

The Day for Kids event is free to the public. Several organizations that partner with the club during the course of the school year, including the Sturgeon Bay Public Library, the United States Coast Guard, the Sturgeon Bay Police and Fire Departments, Ministry Door County Medical Center, Door Peninsula Astronomical Society, and UW Extension, will be on hand to demonstrate some of the programming the club provides during the school year.
