Inaugural “Play It Forward” Benefit Concert Held at DCA

On Sept. 22, some of Door County’s most popular musicians will gather to raise funds for the GO BO Foundation with the first annual “Play It Forward” benefit concert at Door Community Auditorium.

This year’s Play It Forward lineup includes Ben Larsen, Katie Dahl, Dirty Deuce, Julian Hagen, Jess Holland, Mighty Mouth, One Voice (featuring Lynn Gudmundsen, David Hatch, and Lloyd Michalsen), and Small Forest (featuring Jeanne Kuhns, Marybeth Mattson, and Patrick Palmer), as well as poet Ralph Murre. In addition to maintaining loyal, local fan bases, many of these artists tour regionally and nationally. Their music ranges from sultry R&B to classic rock to straight-ahead folk.

Play It Forward is inspired by the life and legacy of Bo Johnson, a young Sister Bay resident who passed away last fall at the age of 12 after a battle with leukemia. Proceeds from the concert on Sept. 22 (which will be the first incarnation of an annual event) will go to benefit the GO BO Foundation, the organization founded to honor Johnson. Future concerts will benefit regional, national, and international causes identified and selected by the performers.

Play it Forward begins at 7 pm. There is no charge for tickets, but freewill donations are encouraged. For more information, call 920.868.2728, visit dcauditorium.org or stop by the box office, located at 3926 Highway 42 in Fish Creek, from 12 – 5 pm Monday through Friday.
