Barney Fun Run Celebrates Sister Bay’s “Running Man”

Steve Willems, better known as Barney, has been a part of Sister Bay’s daily landscape for the past 40-plus years. As a young man, Barney was involved in a tragic car accident that left him in a coma for six weeks and caused severe, permanent nerve damage. Despite life’s obstacles, Barney has thrived through life with a passion for running and a true appreciation of the delicacy of our lives. “It’s a beautiful day, everyday!” has been Barney’s greeting to others for years.

Barney has been running the same route in Sister Bay for the past 40 years. On April 29, you’re invited to participate in the Barney Fun Run and Walk. Participants will run/walk Barney’s daily route, a 3.89-mile loop. There will also be a walk with a 1.84-mile loop. Fun Run/Walk begins and ends at the Sister Bay Bowl at 11 am. Check in starts at 10 am. Registration is $10. You will get a free t-shirt and beer for participating. Register now at barneyfunrun.com.
