Is Yoga A Sport Or Spiritual Practice?

To figure out an answer, take a free introductory yoga class on May 2 at Junction Center Yoga.

While Debate.org says the vote is split 50/50 on this discussion, most serious practitioners will agree that yoga is, instead, a way of life. It can best be described as a fitness lifestyle, one that builds the connection between body, mind and spirit.

“There is only one way to find out how plastic your body really is, and that’s by using it,” says Kathy Navis. “Regain flexibility and range of motion rather than watch it slip away over the years.”

Navis teaches and encourages anyone, at any age, to begin exploring yoga as a means to better health and wellness with a free introductory class each time a new beginner’s series launches at Junction Center Yoga Studio in Jacksonport. The next session begins May 2, meeting each week from 10 to 11:30 am for five weeks.

The introductory class will provide beginners with some basic knowledge and practice of yoga including an explanation of the philosophy, the postures (asanas) and breath work (pranayama). The cost for the five-week series is $50.

All of the equipment is provided in a warm and comfortable environment. Beginner classes are for all ages, male and female and for any level of fitness or ability. To register, call 920.823.2763 or visit JunctionCenterYoga.com.
