Isadoora Adds Northern Door Venue for “Pirates of the Chemotherapy”

Isadoora Theatre Company and the Wellness Center of Door County will bring Paul Schutte’s dramatic comedy, Pirates of the Chemotherapy, to Northern Door audiences on Oct. 30.

Pirates of the Chemotherapy chronicles the struggles and triumphs of six breast cancer support group members as they cope with their diagnoses, symptoms, and treatments; face death, and embrace life. Schutte’s piece offers hilarious and tragic moments, and has been praised by cancer survivors across the country for being a clear-eyed, honest, and uplifting portrayal of “what it’s like.”

Isadoora is presenting the show in Reader’s Theater format, featuring local actresses Ginger Auld, Madelyn DePrey, Pamela Johnson, Renée Kujawski, Chris Milton, and Karen Newbern, under the direction of Chris Weidenbacher.

After each performance, there will be an opportunity for audience questions and discussion with Wellness Center personnel and local breast cancer survivors.

The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Door County, located at 10341 Water Street in Ephraim, will host the performance on Oct. 30 at 7:30 pm.

The reading will also be performed at the Wellness Center of Door County in Sturgeon Bay on Oct. 26 – 28 at 7:30 pm, and Oct. 28 at 2 pm. The Wellness Center is located at 312 North Fifth Avenue; doors will open 30 minutes prior to performances for tours of the facility.

Admission will be freewill donation, and a portion of the proceeds will support the Wellness Center’s free breast cancer screening and early detection programs.
