Isadoora Opens Season with “Pirates of the Chemotherapy”

Isadoora Theatre Company opens their 11th season with a Reader’s Theater presentation of Paul Schutte’s award-winning dramatic comedy, Pirates of the Chemotherapy. Hosted by the Wellness Center of Door County in the play’s first Wisconsin presentation, the reading is directed by Chris Weidenbacher and features local actresses Ginger Auld, Madelyn DePrey, Pamela Johnson, Renée Kujawski, Chris Milton, and Karen Newbern.

The show chronicles the members of a breast cancer support group — their diverse personalities, and their failures and triumphs as they learn to work together to deal with problems. The women band together to face death and take on life, and in the process they find new meaning for their lives through love and laughter. The show underlines the tremendous and relentless spirit of breast cancer survivors; “Cancer is nothing to laugh about – but you can choose to laugh at it!”

Pirates of the Chemotherapy attendees will have an opportunity to tour the Wellness Center of Door County’s new facility one half-hour before each Reader’s Theater performance; and are invited to stay afterwards for a Talk Back and discussion panel including health experts and local breast cancer survivors.

Readings will be held Oct. 26 and 27 at 7:30 pm and on Oct. 28 at 2 and 7:30 pm.

Admission will be free-will donation, and proceeds will be shared with the Wellness Center to support free breast cancer screenings and early detection programs.
