Isadoora Theatre Company Holds Auditions for “Side Man”

Isadoora Theatre Company invites interested community members to audition for its upcoming production of Warren Leight’s Side Man, winner of the 1999 Tony Award for Best Play.

Set in 1953 and moving ahead to 1985, this poignant memory play unfolds through the eyes of Clifford, the only son of Gene, a jazz trumpet player, and Terry, an alcoholic mother. Alternating between their New York City apartment and a smoke-filled music club, Clifford narrates the story of his broken family and the decline of jazz as popular entertainment.

Renée Kujawski, director of last year’s production of Picasso at the Lapin Agile, will once again take the helm and is looking for five men and two women. All characters fall between the ages of 20 to 60 years old, except for the lead male, who should be approximately 30 years old.

Auditions will be held Wednesday, September 3 at Björklunden in Baileys Harbor and Friday, September 5 at Hope Church in Sturgeon Bay beginning at 6:30 pm. Participants do not need to prepare a monologue, as there will be cold readings from the script. Rehearsals will begin as soon as possible and may include some weekend dates. Performance dates are Thursday through Sunday, November 13-16 and November 20-23 at the Sturgeon Bay High School Auditorium. For more information, call Renée at 920.743.9799.
