Italian Night Out, Improvised Orchestra, Motor Show & More Weekend Plans

With June wrapping up, summer is kicking into high gear. Take the time this weekend to get out on the water, out to the theater, or out on the dance floor.

Friday, June 24

Nature Program

Join Jennifer Redell, WDNR bat biologist, in Newport State Park as she presents on bats and conducts a survey using an Anabat echolocation device. Redell will be accompanied by live bat ambassadors. 7 pm.

Not Your Nonna’s Italian Nite-Out

Learn some new culinary skills at this fundraiser for the Farm Market Kitchen. Diana Woodworth will offer a cooking experience drawn from her Italian roots that uses locally sourced ingredients. 5 pm – 10 pm.

Improvestra

Experience orchestra like never before with Improvestra, an improvising orchestra ranging from 10 – 30 musicians. Head over to the Door County Brewing Co. to see them in action at 7 pm.

Saturday, June 25

Opening Reception

See the newest exhibit at Cappaert Contemporary Gallery. “Fresh Start – Season 2” features work by 40 artists. Refreshment will be provided, as well as a s’mores bar. Small Forest will also perform live. 4 pm – 7 pm.

Book Signing

Meet children’s book author/illustrator and Wisconsin native Janet Tlachac-Toonan as she signs her latest book, A Forest Lesson. 11 am – 2 pm at Wood Orchard Market in Egg Harbor.

Tiki Paddle Party

Join Door County Kayak Tours for a kayak and/or paddleboard trip to the tiki bar next to Mr. G’s. Be sure to celebrate with a free beer by the bonfire. 7:30 pm.

Sunday, June 26

Fire & Water Motor Show

Wave Pointe hosts its second annual Fire & Water Motor Show and Vendor Expo this Sunday from 11 am – 3 pm. Food and refreshment will be provided. Awards will be presented at 3:30, and the band I-45 will perform on the patio from 4 – 8 pm.

Still Blue

Enjoy dinner accompanied by swing, jazz and blues music – or feel the groove and get to dancing. Still Blue will perform at Waterfront Mary’s Bar & Grill in Sturgeon Bay from 2 pm – 6 pm.

Chapatti

What happens when you bring two aging animal-lovers together? A performance that tackles what it means to find companionship – in pets and in people. Get your tickets for the Peninsula Players’ late-in-life romance that is both humorous and moving. 7:30 pm.
