It’s Not THAT Cold!

Everything else might have shut down yesterday, but many broomballers toughed out the cold and debilitating wind chill to squeeze in a couple of games the night of Jan. 30.

The Peninsula Pulse went down to Yachtworks 7 – 0, as Freddy notched five goals and Mitch Nechter and Sidney Johnson each added one. In the early game, the Sister Bay Bowl handed JJ’s a 5 -1 loss, with Steve Chomeau and cousin Rick Chomeau each chipping in with a pair of goals, while Mike Daubner put one in. Tim Iding slid one in for JJ’s.

Confusion reigned throughout the day as players wondered if the games would go on. Early it was assumed they would, but then word came that the ice wasn’t in playable condition and play was canceled, only to be saved by the diligent work of a few who repaired the fallen boards and laid down a suitable layer of ice for the evening.

Special and deserved thanks goes to Rick Chomeau, Freddy, Mike Mercier, and Matt Lapp just to name the few of those who scrambled to get the surface ready for play. If you helped but aren’t mentioned know your work was appreciated. Broomball has long, and unfortunately, subsisted on the voluntary efforts of a few for the benefit of the entire league.

The evening’s other game between Blue Horse and Horseshoe Bay was not played, and so through two weeks in “official” games, Yachtworks is on undefeated and sits atop the standings. Blue Horse and the Sister Bay Bowl have one win each, and JJ’s and the Pulse both sit at 0 – 2. Horseshoe Bay has yet to play.
