Jacksonport Celebrates 37 Years of Maifest

The Jacksonport community will once again roll out the red carpet over Memorial Day Weekend for the annual Maifest celebration, scheduled for Saturday, May 23 and Sunday, May 24, 2009. The 37th annual Jacksonport Maifest celebration will take place in and around Jacksonport, although most events will take place at Lakeside Park.

The Maifest softball tournament will unofficially kick things off at the town ballpark on County V on Wednesday, May 20. From Wednesday through Friday, up to three games will be played each night, with the championship game slated for Saturday afternoon.

The popular Maifest parade begins at 10:30 am on Saturday and will run through Jacksonport along Hwy 57. Individuals, groups and businesses are welcome and encouraged to enter floats. Immediately following the parade, there will be a special Memorial Day presentation of the flag by V.F.W. Post 3088 in Lakeside Park.

On Sunday morning it’s time to lace up the running shoes for the Maifest 10K (6.2 miles) and 2 mile fun run/walk. The race gets started at 9 am in Lakeside Park. Race registration can be done ahead of time or that morning beginning at 8 am.

The Frontier Farmers Horse Pull is an extremely popular activity at Maifest and will take place at the ballpark, a block from Lakeside Park, on Sunday afternoon. The festivities begin at noon and the main event will begin around 1 pm.

On Saturday and Sunday, a plethora of other activities will take place in and around Jakcsonport, including:  a juried arts and crafts fair; the Maifest Midway with a variety of fun inflatable adventures for the kids, as well as pony rides; and live entertainment. Plenty of great food and beverages will be available throughout the weekend on the Maifest grounds.
