Jacksonport Craft Cottage Features Lighthouse Art

The Jacksonport Craft Cottage is pleased to highlight artist Gail Hathaway, especially her hand painted rock art featuring Door County lighthouses.

Hathaway, who now resides in Sister Bay, spent time living in the Chesapeake Bay area where she drew sailing vessels, fascinating buildings and lighthouses. She was a consultant on two books written about the lighthouses of that area, and she continues to explore this subject matter in Door County. While working from reference photos, Hathaway uses a variety of media to depict lighthouses, including the use of acrylics on Door County dolomite rocks.

Hathaway’s lighthouse selection includes different views of the Cana Island Light, Sherwood Point, the Old Baileys Harbor light and Upper Range Light, Dunlap Reef, the Canal Station, Plum and Pilot Island, the Pottawatomie Light on Rock Island and Chambers Island in Door County. Her collection also includes other interesting lights such as the outer island lighthouse in the Apostle Islands, Split Rock, Rockwell Lighthouse on the western shore of Lake Winnebago, Racine Reef Lighthouse and Wind

Each of Hathaway’s pieces come with a hand written certificate highlighting the history of the light, which adds to their collector’s appeal.
