Jacksonport Man Killed in Hwy 57 Crash

A 90-year-old Jacksonport man was killed Tuesday, Oct. 25 in a collision on Hwy 57 north of Bechtel Road in the Town of Jacksonport.

According to the Door County Sheriff’s Department’s initial investigation, at about 1:20 pm a bulk petroleum tanker was backing into a driveway to make a delivery when it was struck by a 1999 Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck traveling southbound on Hwy 57. The driver of the S-10 was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the tanker was not injured.

Units from the Jacksonport Fire Department, Sturgeon Bay Fire Department, Jacksonport First Responders, Door County Emergency Services and Door County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene. A portion of Hwy 57 was closed for several hours while the crash was investigated and traffic was diverted around the area. The Door County Sheriff’s Office was assisted in the investigation by inspectors and traffic crash reconstruction personnel from the Wisconsin State Patrol. The Door County Highway Department assisted with the detour and with the clean-up of a small fuel spill from the crash. Hwy 57 reopened shortly before 7 pm.

The crash remains under investigation. Speed and alcohol are not believed to be contributing factors. The name of the victim is not being released pending notification of the next-of-kin.
