Jacob and Pamela Schulz Win Business Plan Award

(Left to right) Jacob and Pamela Schulz receive the $1,000 cash award for their Black Eyed Bean Market business plan from Sam Perlman, DCEDC Economic Development Manager.

The Door County Economic Development Corporation (DCEDC), in association with the UW-Green Bay Small Business Development Center, announced Jacob and Pamela Schulz of Sturgeon Bay are winners of the $1,000 cash award for the best business plan from the Door County Entrepreneurial Training Program course.

The Schulzes wrote a business plan for their proposed start-up, The Black Eyed Bean Market. The Black Eyed Bean Market will be a retail specialty shop for re-packaged bulk foods, including: spices, dry goods, grains, candies, soups, snack foods and dips. Customers will be able to purchase items in the quantities they want at bulk prices.

“Our goal when writing the business plan for The Black Eyed Bean Market was to be prepared to open in Sturgeon Bay in the Spring of 2013,” said Jacob. “At this time we are seeking the right investor to assist with financing and the need for startup capital. If the storefront does not happen next spring, we will begin to market products like our homemade nut butters next summer through alternative channels including, but not limited to, local farm markets.”
