January Exhibit at Hope Church Gallery

The Hope Church Gallery will feature two local artists in January, Sherry Mutchler and Kerry Vavra. Both artists live in Sturgeon Bay, prefer watercolor as their medium, studied with Ed Fenendael and Bridget Austin, and exhibited their works throughout Door County.

Mutchler, a retired school counselor, is currently an instructor at Lakeland College. She was the past coordinator of the Gallery of the Door County Art League (DCAL) and also served on the DCAL board.

“Door County is an artist’s dream and I continually work to capture the color and sense of beauty that it provides,” Mutchler said. Her goal in art is to create a sense of curiosity in the viewer and inspire an interest in the story behind the painting.

Vavra retired to Door County in 2006 with his wife, Kathy. For the last three years Vavra has taken Fenendael’s weekly watercolor classes. He is fascinated by the way the colors melt and blend in watercolor to form subtle hues. Although a loose, freestyle attracts him, Vavra follows his heart and paints a more intricate, detailed style.

Both artists also have home studios that are open to the public by appointment.

Hope Church Gallery is open 9 am – 1 pm Monday through Saturday and 9 am – 2 pm on Sunday.
