January is National Radon Action Month

Rhonda Kolberg, director/health officer for the Door County Public Health Department, encourages the community to test radon levels in their homes during January (National Radon Action Month).

Radon is a radioactive and odorless gas that comes from trace amounts of natural uranium in the ground. Radon is the leading cause of lung cancer among nonsmokers and the second leading cause of lung cancer.

To obtain a low cost test kit, contact the State of Wisconsin Regional Radon Information Center at 920.683.4454.
