Jazz, Rock and Funk Featured at Alpine Concerts

The Alpine Resort’s summer music series will continue through the fall.

Birch Creek’s Brad Stirtz and his jazz trio will perform Aug. 27, 4:30-7:30 pm, in the bar area at the Alpine’s Burton’s on the Bay restaurant. The trio features Stirtz on vibraphone, Mike Arnopol on upright bass and Greg Marsh on drums.

Stirtz is on the faculty of North Central College and is celebrating 43 years with Birch Creek. Arnopol has played upright and electric bass professionally for the past 35 years and is well known for his work with jazz vocalist Patricia Barber. Marsh turned his early passion for drumming into a career spanning more than 40 years, and he’s provided the foundation for many jingles and records.

World-renowned bassist Billy Peterson, of the famous Peterson Family, will perform Aug. 31, 6-9 pm. His son Will Oliver will join him on keyboards and vocals, as will composer and educator Joe Elliott on guitar, and Greg Marsh on drums and percussion. The group specializes in rock and funk favorites through the decades and will delight the audience in the Alpine’s waterfront event tent.

On Sept. 1, 5:30-8:30 pm, the Billy Peterson Jazz Quartet will perform jazz and R&B favorites in the dining room at Burton’s on the Bay.

Beer, wine, charcuterie, cheese boards, and pitas and spinach dip are available for purchase in the tent during tent concerts. No coolers or carry-in food or beverages are allowed for the tent concerts, but feel free to take lawn chairs.
