Jens Jensen’s Great-Grandson Visits The Clearing

The Clearing Folk School is proud to host Woody Wheeler, great-grandson to The Clearing’s founder and renowned landscape architect and conservationist Jens Jensen, with a reading/signing event based upon Wheeler’s new book Look Up! Birds and Other Natural Wonders Just Outside Your Window. This event will be May 27, 4:30 to 5:30 pm, at The Clearing’s Jens Jensen Visitor Center located at 12171 Garrett Bay Road, Ellison Bay.

The event features Wheeler reading five essays from his book, including one about his great-grandfather, Jens Jensen, and others related to his Midwest upbringing and discovery of birds and nature. The reading will be followed by a question and answer period, and book signing. Wheeler’s new book will be available for sale in The Clearing’s Bookstore and Gift Shop. Refreshments and treats will also be available.

Look Up! is a series of well-researched nature essays that will inspire readers to experience the outdoors in an affordable, accessible and joyful way. The essays encourage backyard and local bird watching, native plant landscaping and restoration, practical energy conservation, and land conservation. Look Up! displays the vibrant beauty of the natural world in all its splendor through 40 stunning full-color photos. The book is dedicated to one of America’s early conservationists, Jens Jensen, who is featured in a number of the book’s essays.
