Jerry Apps Book Signing at The Clearing

The Clearing Folk School will host a book signing for celebrated rural historian Jerry Apps, author of nine Wisconsin Historical Society Press books and dozens of other books and articles. Apps will discuss his two most recently (April and September, 2015) published novels, Whispers and Shadows: A Naturalist’s Memoir and Wisconsin Agriculture: A History.

This free book signing event will take place Oct. 17, 4:30-6 pm, at The Clearing’s Jens Jensen Visitor Center, 12171 Garrett Bay Road, Ellison Bay, following his sold-out day-long workshop, Writing from Your Life. Many of Apps’ books, including these two most recent releases, are available for purchase in The Clearing’s bookstore and gift shop.

Apps has worked as a rural historian and environmental writer for 48 years. For 10 years he wrote a weekly column on nature appreciation for several central Wisconsin newspapers. He has written many books on nature and environmental topics, including Old Farm: A History; The Quiet Season: Remembering Country Winters; and Garden Wisdom: Lessons Learned from 60 Years of Gardening. In 2012, Wisconsin Public Television produced the hour-long documentary A Farm Story with Jerry Apps. He and his wife, Ruth, divide their time between their home in Madison and their farm, Roshara, near Wild Rose. Apps was born and raised on a Wisconsin farm. A former agricultural extension agent, he is a professor emeritus at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
