Journey to China at Next Travelogue Screening

On Oct. 9 the Kiwanis and Rotary Clubs of Northern Door present a fascinating journey to China – an ancient country and culture steeped in history and tradition. The show, aptly titled China Rising, will highlight the contrasts between old and new, ancient and modern.

Moviegoers will be transported to such fascinating sites as China’s capital city of Beijing, home to the Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square; the Great Wall; Yarlung Tsangpo Canyon; and to the site of the Terra Cotta soldiers.

In contrast to the abundant antiquity of China, the film highlights the country’s fast-paced and burgeoning economic expansion, including ultra-modern cities, expensive shopping, traffic congestion and huge farming operations with giant tractors producing corn, soybeans and other crops on private farms. Viewers will be transported on a ride aboard the high-speed bullet train to Shanghai traveling at up to 240 mph.

Fast-paced, crowded and congested cities expanding for miles yet still so much untouched natural beauty. Come along on this special journey and be inspired by the Chinese people, their vibrancy and their ambition to make things happen.

The show will be presented live by award-winning veteran filmmaker, writer, director and producer Dale Johnson. His career has brought him around the globe, including a five-year stint at NASA working on many films during the Skylab era. He is also founder of Trailwood Films production company.

China Rising begins at 7:30 pm at First Baptist Church of Sister Bay. Tickets may be purchased at the door. Admission price is $7 or a show pass, good for six admissions to this or any of the upcoming films in the current season, may be purchased for $36. Children under 18 are admitted free. Refreshments will be available during intermission. For more information, call Gary (920.854.4825) or Larry (920.839.9419).
