July 29 Jacksonport Guided Walk Features Organ, Piano Performances

Four historic buildings in Jacksonport, three of them dating to the 19th century, and tombstones of four prominent local families, will be featured in a guided historic walk on July 29. This event starts at 8 am at Stella Maris Parish social hall and end at 3:45 pm at the Town Hall Bakery.

According to the organizing committee, this historic walk is unique for two reasons: it includes brief organ and piano performances but very little walking. At check-in, participants will receive handouts and booklets, as well as vouchers for complimentary morning coffee or tea and pastry and afternoon coffee or tea at Town Hall Bakery.

Musical highlights include short organ performances at Stella Maris and United Methodist churches by Cheryl Pfister as well as a piano performance by Dan Meunier at the Jacksonport School House.

A morning visit to Stella Maris Church will be hosted by Les Kiehnau. Cemetery walks focusing on the LeClair, Campbell, Butler and Husby families will be presented.

Following lunch break, afternoon activities resume with visits to the school house, which currently serves as a piano studio, and the Methodist church. Marlene Mueller Larson will present the Town Hall Bakery in the last segment of the day.

Adult price for the full-day tour is $25. Price for those who prefer a half-day option is $15. Each segment is limited to 50 participants. Early reservations are therefore encouraged but are non-refundable. Children 10 and under are half price. The rain date is July 31.

Checks to Jacksonport Historical Society along with registration forms, which are found on the JHS website, may be left at Bley’s Grocery or Jacksonport Cottage. They may also be mailed to 4768 Hwy 57, Sturgeon Bay, WI 54235. All proceeds go to the JHS museum development fund. For more information, email [email protected] or [email protected].
