The Door County Master Gardener Association announces a free continuing education program featuring presenter Bernie Williams, a Plant Pest and Disease Specialist in Forest Health with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. Williams will present “Jumping Worms” March 20, 7 pm at Crossroads at Big Creek in Sturgeon Bay.
Williams has been with the DNR for 10 years and also was a science educator for five years at the Milwaukee Public Museum. She has a BA, BS, and Master’s from the University of Pittsburgh and is a native Pennsylvanian.
Williams’ presentation will cover all earthworms found in Wisconsin and address questions about “jumping worms,” like: Where did jumping worms come from and how did they get here? What types of habitats do they invade and where have they been found? What do they look like? Do they really jump? What do I do if I find them in my garden? How and why are they spreading? What’s being done about them and are they really a problem?
