June 21 is Go Skateboarding Day

June 21 is Go Skateboarding Day. On June 21, skateboarders around the globe will celebrate the pure exhilaration, creativity and spirit of skateboarding. The Sturgeon Bay Skatepark Initiative, with sponsorship support from Ministry Door County Medical Center, is hosting a local event that will bring the community together around the family-friendly, outdoor athletic activities of skateboarding and BMX biking. There will be food, entertainment and skate demos from 5 to 8 pm at the Sturgeon Bay Skatepark, 16 W. Spruce Street, Sturgeon Bay. Food will be available for purchase from Nistebox. Music is provided by Dirty Deuce, the Musical Mathematicians of Rock & Roll, who will be playing their rough-edged brand of soulful blues from 6:30 – 8 pm.

Go Skateboarding Day is the official holiday of skateboarding. Since June 21, 2004, Go Skateboarding Day has provided an excuse and an incentive for skateboarders to make skateboarding their top priority. Over the past 12 years, the idea has spread and it is now a cooperative of decentralized events that take place around the globe to celebrate the unique, creative and independent culture of skateboarding and to show the world what skateboarding is really all about. The Sturgeon Bay event is free, open to the public and appropriate for all ages.
