June Programs at The Ridges Sanctuary

Summer is finally here and if you’re looking for opportunities to connect with nature, check out the June schedule at The Ridges.

Guided Sanctuary hikes depart from the Ridges Nature Center in Baileys Harbor daily at 10 am & 2 pm beginning June 1. These relaxing 90-minute walks on the trails are led by seasoned naturalists and include access to the Upper Range Light lantern room. Adult fees are $5 for Ridges members and $8 for the general public. Children and students under 18 hike free.

A variety of specialty hikes highlighting other features and areas of The Ridges campus are also available. Meet at The Ridges Nature Center for an Appel’s Bluff Hike on June 5 at 2 pm. Adult fees are $5 for Ridges members, $8 for the general public and free if under 18. Discovery Bird Hikes will be held on Saturdays throughout June and July at 6:30 am beginning June 4. Hikes begin at The Ridges Cabins, 8288 County Q in Baileys Harbor. Discovery Bird Hikes are free for Ridges members and $5 for the general public.

Explore nature from the water with a guided paddle trip. Conducted by experienced kayak guides and Ridges naturalists, these tours are filled with opportunities to see birds, wildlife and native plants. Kangaroo Lake trips are offered Wednesdays at 1 pm beginning June 1. Call Lakeshore Adventures at 920.839.2055 for reservations. Logan Creek trips are available on Wednesdays at 8 am beginning June 8. Call Bay Shore Outfitters at 920.854.7589 for reservations. A fee of $55 per person is fully refundable if the tour is canceled due to weather.

Families will be happy to hear that the Family Discovery Trail opens for the season on June 4. Parents and kids can enjoy the interactive exploration areas of this unique trail system from dawn to dusk throughout the summer months. As part of the McArdle Library and the Door County Library Summer Reading program, the Discovery Trail’s StoryWalk features What’s in the Woods? A Nature Discovery Guide by Zoe Burke and Charley Harper. Admission is free to members and children under 18. A $5 Day Pass is required for the general public.
