The Gallery of the Door County Art League will feature two artists each week of the season, and for the week of June 28, jeweler Judy Ritter and painter Karen DeNoto will be highlighted. Both artists will be demonstrating in the gallery on Thursday, July 2.
DeNoto, who works primarily in oils and pastels, has been painting for about eight years. She begins by determining what she wants to convey – the mood, feeling, or statement. DeNoto always starts with a thumbnail and a value sketch, which helps her thought process of figuring out the best approach. DeNoto’s pieces frequently reflect her love of the water and boating and also travel.
Ritter, a jeweler and fiber artist/knitter, was a recent Honorable Mention award winner at the League’s 23rd Annual Juried Exhibit currently on display at The Link Gallery in the Door Community Auditorium. In the summer Ritter works mostly on jewelry, but in the fall she will begin knitting accessories, such as shawls, ponchos, and sweaters. She often puts her talents together, combining textures and colors of the yarns and stones or fused glass to produce one-of-a-kind pieces.
