Kathleen Nelson to Give Painting Demonstration

Artist Kathleen Nelson will demonstrate her painting and pastel techniques on Saturday, May 24 at Great Northern by Design, at the Settlement Shops in Fish Creek from 10 am – noon.

Nelson has been a painter most of her life and remembers the thrill of seeing colors running together her first time painting in kindergarten. That thrill has stayed with her through studies at UWM, as well as at West Virginia University of Morgantown, and is apparent in her work today.

“I think it must be in my spirit to paint and create. I love the fluidity of watercolor and like to see what can ‘just happen’ with the medium, rather than focusing on perfectionism.” A love of nature, and family inspire her work.

Her new spring watercolors, some with pastel, are somewhat whimsical still lives and florals with very vibrant colors. They speak of new beginnings and the fresh light of spring. Her work will be exhibited at Great Northern by Design for the season.

Throughout Nelson’s demonstration, refreshments will be served and an early Farmer’s Market and the Annual Plant Sale will also be taking place on the grounds of the Settlement Shops.
