Kayaking Adventures Door County (KADC) will lend their knowledgeable and enthusiastic staff to the 3rd Annual Washington Island Canoe and Kayak Event (WICKE) scheduled for June 17 – 19. During the event’s inaugural year in 2009, KADC successfully launched the instructional kayak symposium with students from all parts of Wisconsin and Illinois.

In addition, this year the KADC will supervise and insure the safety of paddlers during a kayak crossing of Death’s Door, the passage between Washington Island and mainland Door County.

Beginner skills will be demonstrated and practiced on June 18 during the Coastal Sea Kayaking Symposium morning session held at Gislason Beach at Red Barn Park. Paddlers will learn boat fit, equipment, safety, wet exit, boat maneuvering/control and five basic paddle strokes. Intermediate level skills will be enhanced with experienced teachers working with symposium participants in solo kayaks. Short excursions in Detroit Harbor, Washington Island are part of the day’s class activities. Sea kayaks and all paddling equipment will be available for rent at the symposium.
