Walt’s Woods feels small, but it’s full of whimsy. Photo by Andrew Kleidon.
This Door County Land Trust property is distinctive: It’s one of the southern-most boreal forests in America. The winding natural trails take hikers through several interesting landscapes, including some rock formations, and a panoramic view of Lake Michigan on a rocky shoreline highlights the hike’s midway point.
Where: 1499 Goodnow Road, Baileys Harbor
Distance: 0.7 miles
Difficulty: Easy to moderate. The trail is less defined than some others, and there’s a portion with a sharp decline.
Highlights: This short loop feels like a micro-ecosystem.
