Wisconsin writer Michael Perry presented a unique opportunity to aspiring student writers at Gibraltar High School last month. Supported by a Peninsula Arts Association/Wisconsin Arts Board grant, as well as funding provided by Friends of Gibraltar and Friends of Door County Libraries, Michael Perry shared his writing techniques with students.
It was a rewarding experience for both the students and Michael Perry. Freshman Katelaine Buske said, “It was an amazing workshop…Thank you so much for the opportunity to do this!”
And for his part, Michael Perry smiled, “Keep it relevant and real, and the kids will connect.”
The following essays are based on the theme that Michael Perry has emphasized in his books: the importance and relevance of commitment to family, friends, and community.
