Ken Koyen to Host Illinois Fish Boil

Washington Island fisherman Ken Koyen will once again conduct one of his famous Island whitefish boils in Berwyn, Illinois, on Feb. 2. The boil features his freshly caught Lake Michigan whitefish, Island-grown red potatoes and onions, all boiled in a large cauldron over an open wood fire. Koyen will also offer Jerry Mann’s Island brats and Mediterranean vegetarian/vegan fare and baklava by Kate from the Island’s Fiddler’s Green Irish Pub.

Music on the main stage starts at 4:30 pm and runs throughout the evening. Early performers include Julian Hagen, Professor Gourley and Genevieve Heyward. At 6:45 pm, The Seat Of The Pants Band will take the stage. This year’s special guest performer is Peter Quinn, lead singer for Chicago-based Jump ’N the Saddle Band. Other guests include Paris Schutz of Chicago Tonight on WTTW and Kathy Sparrenberger. A jam session will once again take place throughout the evening. Island-connected door prizes will be drawn throughout the evening.

The whitefish boil and live music will take place at FitzGerald’s, 6615 Roosevelt Road, Berwyn, Illinois. Doors will open at 3:30 pm, with the first whitefish boil-over at 4:30 pm. Admission is $15 per person and free for children ages 12 and younger. Food is an additional charge. For more information and to make reservations, visit fitzgeraldsnightclub.com.
