Kendra Bulgrin Featured at The Flying Pig

The Flying Pig Gallery and Greenspace welcomes Kendra Bulgrin to their artist line-up. Born in Beaver Dam, Bulgrin attended the University of Wisconsin – Whitewater where she received a BFA with an emphasis in painting and a minor in Japanese Cultural Studies. She completed her MFA in interdisciplinary arts at Memphis College of Art in 2007.

Bulgrin has shown at the Brooks Museum of Art, Memphis, and at Beijing Normal University, China. Currently, she is a visiting lecturer at the University of Wisconsin – Green Bay and lives in Kewaunee.

“My interest in the image as a ground of identity and memory stems from the personal struggle to understand and cope with my identity and past as an adopted child. At times, I see myself as living two separate lives. This feeling of separation, disconnection, and the recent reunification of my pasts have played an important role in my work. I began working with the miniature farm set from my childhood and began taking photographs, often with dramatic and intense lighting. The translation of these photo-scenes to oil paint on panel unwound the knot of certain relationships that I wanted to address visually.”

Bulgrin’s work is currently on display through the end of July.

The Flying Pig Gallery and Greenspace is open daily 10 am – 5 pm and is located at N6975 State Highway 42, two miles south of Algoma.
