Kewaunee Academy Students and Instructor Honored

After recent awards were donned upon students and instructors of the Kewaunee Academy of Fine Art, Norma Bell, academy owner, commented, “We are so pleased to witness the deserved recognition academy members receive, often before they complete their training at the academy.”

Bell continued, “They have been honored at the Miller Museum, the Fairfield museum, and at several regional and national exhibitions in the past year.”

One of the academy’s recent honorees is former student Jeffery Hargreaves, Appleton, WI. Hargreaves received the First Place Award in the still life/floral division in the “Richeson 75: Artist’s Choice 2008 International Exhibition” in January 2008. Hargreaves’ painting, “Remembering Dad” was selected by juror Sam Adoquei for the top award. Adoquei commented, “Talent, skill and potential of a piece of art work are the qualities that influence my judgment in juried art shows…with these three elements the artist can control vision, chances and destiny.”

A number of other academy members competed with several hundred domestic and international entries in the Richeson Art Competition and were recognized with Mr. Meritorious Entries Awards. These recipients include student Phyllis Verhyen, Greenleaf, WI; student Betty M. Proper, Appleton, WI; and instructor Aaron Holland, Sturgeon Bay, WI.
