Kewaunee County Capping Landfill May 25

Kewaunee County is reminding residents of the upcoming closure and capping of the Kewaunee County Landfill. The last day that solid waste will be accepted at the site while it’s under the operation of Kewaunee County is May 25. Kewaunee County opened the landfill in 1983 and after operation and construction of Phase I and Phase II, the Kewaunee County Board of Supervisors approved a resolution to not pursue seeking a license for Phase III in 2015. This was due to economic projections that included uncertain solid waste volume, regulatory climate and costs. In 2017, Kewaunee County began the request for proposal process to cap the landfill with an estimated expense of approximately $1.1 million for engineering and construction. Kewaunee County will lease the building at the landfill and approximately five acres of land to Blue Water Services, LTD of Kewaunee, which will operate a waste transfer and recycling station under the name of Riverview Transfer, Inc. The local business plans to open to the public for disposal needs on Tuesday, May 29.
