Kids Day and Speaker Series at Maritime Museum

The Door County Maritime Museum will kick off a couple of Saturdays of fun for kids with the annual Kids Day at the Sturgeon Bay museum on Nov. 28.

Kids are admitted free to the museum throughout the Festival of Trees, which runs Nov. 14 – Dec. 8, with a nominal Cana Island donation. Nov. 28 promises to be an extra special day with a number of happenings planned from 10:30 am to 3:30 pm.

In addition to the family-oriented Sea Dogs exhibit there are a number of other activities planned including face painting, crafts, “feed the dog” bean bag toss, and dog scavenger hunt.

The scavenger hunt will encourage the kids to explore the entire museum as each kid will receive a “doggy scavenger hunt” game card that they will carry with them to have stamped at various points throughout the museum. Those who get all their stamps will receive a “Sea Dog License.”

On Dec. 5, Santa Claus will make his annual appearance on the Tug John Purves to receive annual Christmas wishes. Santa will be available from 10 am to 1 pm. Also that day the Ministry Door County Medical Center’s Children’s Choir will perform at 11 am.

The Door County Maritime Museum is also participating in the Door CANcer Holiday Home Tour on the 5th with access to the museum and the Merry-Time Festival of Trees again part of this year’s tour ticket. While kids are admitted free (ages 17 & under), adults also receive a bonus with their $10 admission fee as each admission comes with a $5 raffle ticket to enter into the drawing for the tree they would most like to win when drawings are held at the Jingle, Jingle, Mix & Mingle event on Dec. 8.

Also, the museum’s Speaker Series resumes Dec. 1 at 7 pm, with a presentation influenced both by the Sea Dogs exhibit and events that took place nearly 74 years ago. The Speaker Series is free of charge with a nonperishable food donation requested.
