Kids in Doorways

Door Shakespeare’s educational program, Doorways, has gained a loyal following since 2000 and will be back this summer in the Garden at Björklunden from August 4 – 8. Daily, from 10 am – 12:30 pm, students age 7 – 11 and middle to high schoolers will play traditional theatre games, learn a variety of acting techniques and explore the poetry of William Shakespeare.

Doorways is first graders playing the witches in Macbeth, fourth grade boys dueling in Romeo and Juliet, students age 7-12 coming together to create the hilarious play within the play in Midsummer Night’s Dream, and high schoolers engaging in a battle of wits in Comedy of Errors. Doorways is theatre games, laughter, new friendships, teamwork, ensemble, courage, confidence and a chance to perform on a professional stage. Mostly, Doorways is a valuable learning experience masked by five days of fun.

The culmination of both camps will be an original green show performance before Door Shakespeare’s Friday night production of King Lear. Tuition is $75 and includes all materials, snacks and water, a ticket to Door Shakespeare and a Doorways t-shirt.

The workshops will be led by Door Shakespeare company members Jennefer Ludwigsen and Elyse Edelman, with several other actors leading classes in Hip Hop Shakespeare, stage combat, improve and verse work. For more information and to register, call 920.839.1500 or visit doorshakespeare.com.
