Kitchens, Michels, Barnes Win Tuesday Primaries

Assembly District 1 incumbent Joel Kitchens easily defeated a primary challenge from Milt Swagel of Kewaunee. Kitchens earned 78% of the vote and will face Democratic challenger Roberta Thelen in November’s general election.

Tim Michels, who poured millions of his own dollars into his race for Governor, defeated Rebecca Kleefisch in Tuesday’s Republican primary, taking 47.2% of the vote to Kleefisch’s 42%. He will face incumbent Democrat Tony Evers in November.

In the race to unseat Republican Senator Ron Johnson it will be Mandela Barnes, who won the Democratic primary with 77.8% of the vote after top challengers Alex Lasry and Sarah Godlewski withdrew in the weeks leading up to the election. Johnson easily defeated a challenge from David Schroeder with 83.7% of the Republican vote.
