Kiwanis Travelogue Program

Friday evening, Feb. 22, the Kiwanis Club of Northern Door will present its fourth program in the Travel and Adventure film series at 7:30 pm at the First Baptist Church of Sister Bay.

The tiny island of Corsica lies in the Ligurian Sea about 60 miles off the northeast coast of Italy. According to geologists, the island is the result of a continental drift away from the Cote d’ Zaure of France and Italy’s Ligurian River. Figuratively speaking, it’s a stone’s throw away. In this new film, Stan Walsh explores this sun-drenched and wild island with its glamorous, parent coastline.

From Napoleon to Neolithic megaliths to a modern narrow-gauge train ride, you will explore the craggy cliffs near Porto and Sagone; relax in a villa near Bonifacio and see Sardinia on the horizon. On the road to Corte, visit the world-class Hermann Tortoise Sanctuary. Then on to Calvi, Bastia and Cape Corse, a finger-like peninsula pointing to Italy’s Riviera DeLevante.

Menton, Monaco, Nice and Cannes are elite place-names on the Grand Tour, but we’ll also leave the fashionable coast to visit St-Paul-de-Vence, Grasse and the Var Valley. We’ll view hidden villages such as Entrevaus and Eze, a haunt of the rich and famous.

The Rhone River, Avigonon, Aries, Nimes and unspoiled villages of the Alpiles Mountain are delightful destinations, and you will meet the people in this exciting trip with world traveler and cinematographer, Stan Walsh.

Adding to the flavor of the evening and in keeping with the Corsica travel destination theme, Don and Jean Thompson, owners of the Door County Bakery, will donate samples of their nationally-trademarked Corsica Loaf ™ bread for tasting during intermission. Appropriately named after the Mediterranean island of Corsica, which politically has been shared throughout past centuries between France and Italy, Door County Bakery combines French and Italian bread-making traditions to create the delicious bread. In addition to tasting a savory sample, the Thompsons have generously donated a full Corsica Loaf™ to the Kiwanis Club and during intermission there will be an opportunity for a member of the audience to win a freshly-baked Corsica Loaf™.

Tickets are available at the door. Admission is $6 per show or $30 for a season pass good towards six adult admissions. Children under 18 are admitted free. Refreshments will be available during intermission. Call 920.854.4825 for more information.
