Knock Magazine Debuts Summer Issue at Plum Bottom Pottery

Plum Bottom Pottery will host Knock Magazine Friday, June 26 at 6 pm for an evening of art and literature. The new summer issues will be available, free, as always, to the public – wine and hors d’oeuvres also will be served.

Knock Magazine, Door County’s Art and Literary Journal, was founded by Nik Garvoille in 2007 and strives to bring new artists and writers to the Door County cultural landscape. This marks the seventh issue of Knock, and collaboration with Chad Luberger’s Plum Bottom Pottery seemed like a perfect fit.

“I’m truly excited to host Knock’s writers and have the opportunity to showcase the level of talent represented by the magazine,” says Luberger. “Nik has gotten together an eclectic group of voices that somehow speak as one in Knock, every issue stands on its own as a unique piece of literature.”

One of the evening’s highlights will be featured writers of Knock reading from their own works.

“When we get writers together who have been publishing work for years along with those who are just breaking out in that journal,” says Garvoille, “that’s when both can glean new ideas and new inspiration.”

Luberger also plans on debuting a new line of porcelain sculpture at the event.

“I’ve been working on pieces that are more in the sculptural arena than functional, this seemed like a perfect event to unveil some unconventional porcelain work to the public,” says Luberger.

Angela Lensch, Plum Bottom’s resident jewelry artist, will also be showing a newly designed line of necklaces and bracelets featuring her signature style of weaving gemstones and pearls with precious metals, creating intricate matrices of wearable art.

“Everybody involved in this event is really pushing themselves artistically, taking some risk, I’m looking forward to seeing it all come together,” says Luberger.

Garvoille concludes, “To gather such a group of up-and-coming artists, spanning the artistic disciplines is rare. I see some interesting partnerships beginning at this event.”
