Julia Kurek finishes first at Valders CC Invite

Sturgeon Bay senior Julia Kurek placed first at Thursday’s Bob Burzynski Cross Country Invite in Valders.

Kurek’s winning time of 20 minutes, 44.63 seconds, in the 5,000-meter girls race was nearly 17 seconds faster than the runner-up, Luxemburg-Casco freshman Claire DuChateau.

In the girls team standings, Plymouth and Luxemburg-Casco tied for the top score of 70, with the Panthers finishing ahead of the Spartans based on the place of the sixth runner. Sturgeon Bay (177) placed seventh.
