The Ridges Sanctuary concludes Lake Lessons with two presentations in August at the Baileys Harbor Town Hall.
On August 2 at 7 pm, wildlife biologist David Drake will present “A History of Wisconsin Wildlife.” This presentation will focus on the shifts in Wisconsin wildlife from pre-settlement to the present.
Drake is currently Extension Wildlife Specialist and Associate Professor in the Department of Forest and Wildlife Ecology at the University of Wisconsin – Madison. His research studies have included human impact on wildlife, wildlife management on private lands, wildlife damage management, suburban/urban wildlife and wildlife policy.
Concluding the series on August 9 at 7 pm is Janet Eckhoff, National Natural Landmarks (NNL) Coordinator at the National Park Service.
The NNL program, currently celebrating its 50th anniversary, recognizes and encourages the conservation of sites that contain outstanding biological and geological resources. To date, there are nearly 600 NNL sites, 18 sites are located in Wisconsin. (The Ridges received NNL designation in 1967).
Eckhoff’s presentation, “Landmarks in Nature,” will provide insights into the NNL’s history, evolution and future.
Lakes Lessons presentations are free, but donations are welcome.
