Join Dale and Mary Goodner, Tim Stone and Door County Land Trust Executive Director Tom Clay May 12, 9-11 am, on a leisurely hike through varied habitats in the Land Trust’s Sturgeon Bay Ship Canal Preserve. Discover some of the migratory as well as resident birds that can be found here. All level of birders are welcome; bring binoculars and wear sturdy walking shoes. The birding hike is about a mile or more along the trails.
Research and restoration work go hand in hand. Volunteers control invasive species and help locate rare dune thistles as the Land Trust works with the Chicago Botanic Garden to understand and protect this special place. Thanks to these efforts, the Great Lakes’ healthiest population of the endangered dune thistle is now found here.
This hike is free and open to the public, but it is capped at 20 hikers. Register at doorcountylandtrust.org. The Sturgeon Bay Ship Canal Nature Preserve is located at 5340 Lake Lane.
