Land Trust Releases Public Hike Dates

The Door County Land Trust is sponsoring a series of “Explore the Door” public hikes held throughout 2017.

“A Walk Among the Hemlocks” is a hike scheduled for June 15, 3-5 pm, at 5340 Lake Lane, Sturgeon Bay. This one-mile guided walk will be through easy terrain in a boreal-like forest nestled between the sandy shores of Lake Michigan and the wetlands near Strawberry Creek. This preserve contains white pines, hemlocks and red maples, along with a variety animal life, fungi, wildflowers and rare plants.

On June 17, 9 – 11 am, there will be a “Shoreline, Dunes and Forest Walk,” at 5340 Lake Lane, Sturgeon Bay. This guided one-mile hike over mild-to-moderate terrain will take you through white cedar wetlands, windswept dunes and boreal forests, a wonderful cross-section of Door County’s characteristic and celebrated landscapes.

Kids attending either hike will receive a free nature journal and outdoor activity kit at the completion of the walk. These hikes are free, open to the public and no registration is required.
