Landscape and Abstraction

“Steelbridge” by Stephanie Trenchard.

Stephanie Trenchard will display her abstract landscape oil paintings in the lobby gallery of Third Avenue Playhouse during the run of Talley’s Folly, July 2 – 25.

Trenchard and her artist husband Jeremy Popelka have a fine art studio and gallery on South Second Avenue in Sturgeon Bay. The studio is a full hot glass facility where they blow, sculpt and cast glass as well as teach lessons. Trenchard is known for her fine art glass sculptures as well as for her abstract oil paintings. She holds a BFA in painting from Illinois State University and has continued to paint while working with glass. Her paintings straddle the line between landscape and abstraction. She creates depth and a setting through hue, with the use of pattered squares, and through composition.

Recently Trenchard has been working on a series of maps created by pattern and color. She says, “I like the idea of my paintings having a function as visual information, such as a map.” Her map series include large paintings of Sturgeon Bay (which can be seen locally at 136 Wine Bar & Restaurant), Clarks Lake and Madison, circa 1972.

The lobby gallery is open to the public during regular box office hours and during regularly scheduled performances: from noon until showtime Tuesday through Sunday. For more information visit ThirdAvenuePlayhouse.com.
