It costs the City of Sturgeon Bay $67 to dispose of a large TV set, yet the resident is charged only $32 for the pickup. Something had to give. That something was a fee increase that the Common Council approved unanimously March 2.
“The prices keep going up for the disposal of these items,” said Mike Barker, the city’s municipal services director. “So this is to bring it up to an even playing field. It’s not to generate money – it’s to cover loss.”
Pickup fees now range from $35 for electronics of fewer than 200 pounds to $70.50 for a TV that’s 36 inches or larger.
