Larsen Kicks Off 2012-2013 Dickinson Poetry Series

Door County Poet Laureate Barbara Larsen will share her work at the first performance of the 2012 – 2013 UUF’s Dickinson Poetry Series on April 11 at 7 pm. Larson retired to Door County 27 years ago with husband George.

Much of Larsen’s work is inspired by the beauty in nature around her home on a bluff overlooking Green Bay waters in Door County. Family memories and humorous incidents in her life also find their way into words.

The most recent of her six published books, Obits: Reading Behind the Fine Print, will be coming out in April. These post-life poems reflect the lives behind the fine print in the obituary pages, with illustrations by Gretchen Maring.

Her “people poem” book, Lime Ridge, 1937, will be presented as a verse-drama in late May as part of her Poet Laureate mission to bring poetry to a wider audience.

On the second Wednesday of every month, the Dickinson Poetry Series features a renowned local or regional poet as well as an “open mic” session for others in the audience to read. A reception follows for mingling with the poets. The public is welcome and there is no charge.

The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship is located at 10341 Highway 42 in Ephraim. For more information visit http://www.uufdc.org or call 920.854.7559.
