Lauter to Read from New Chapbook

At the Oct. 10 Dickinson Poetry Series program, Estella Lauter will read from her new chapbook, You Never Said. We Didn’t Ask, published by Finishing Line Press in May. In it, the poet speaks to one former World War I soldier who, like many others, said almost nothing about that life-changing experience. As the book reconstructs what happened in the last months of the war, it also addresses the pressures on German-American families at the time, the many reasons why one might not speak, and the dislocation caused by this tour of duty. The reading starts at 7 pm.

Lauter served as Poet Laureate of Door County in 2013-2015. She retired to the county from UW-Oshkosh in 2004 and has since published three other chapbooks with Finishing Line Press. She co-edited Soundings: Door County in Poetry (2015) with members of the Door County Poets Collective, and co-edited the 2017 Wisconsin Fellowship of Poets Calendar with Francha Barnard on the theme of water. She lives with her husband on 31 acres of woodland bordering the Ephraim Swamp.

On the second Wednesday of every month the Dickinson Poetry Series features a local or regional poet followed by an open mic and a reception. The public is welcome and there is no charge. The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship is located at 10341 Hwy 42 in north Ephraim. For more information call 920.854.7559.
