League Hosts Candidate Forum for County Treasurer

For the first time in its history, the Door County League of Women Voters (LWV) sponsored an online candidate forum for the Office of Door County Treasurer. The forum was held July 13.

There are five candidates in the Aug. 11 partisan primary: Democrats Jan Arbter Anderson and Ashley DeGrave, and Republicans Christine A. Moe, Ryan J. Schley and Lisa M. Hart. Incumbent County Treasurer Jay Zahn announced his retirement in April of this year. The winner from each party will face off in the Nov. 3 general election.

The purpose of all LWV forums is to help voters select the most qualified, best-suited person for the office. They are not debates. The event consisted of opening and closing statements and anonymous written questions that were screened for appropriateness. Candidates did not see the questions ahead of time. All participating candidates had an equal opportunity to share their positions and views regarding each question.   Because of the pandemic, LWV hosted this forum online, and it did not include a live audience. Voters can watch the recording of the forum at leagueofwomenvotersdoorcounty.org/candidate-forums.html. The recording also is posted on the LWV Door County Facebook page.
