League of Women Voters to Hold Annual Meeting May 14

The public is invited to join the League of Women Voters of Door County members for their annual meeting on May 14 at Mr. G’s Logan Creek Grille, 5897 Hwy. 57, just south of Jacksonport. Registration and happy hour is at 5:30 pm, followed by the business meeting at 5:30, dinner at 6:15 and the presentation by Dr. Ivy Cargile at 7:15 pm. Everyone is welcome.

Cargile will address the interesting paradox being seen in American politics as it relates to female elected officials. While the 114th Congress is being touted as notable for the number of women in the Senate and in the House of Representatives, this is an occurrence not necessarily present at all levels of office. This indicates that female voters are not yet being equally represented at all levels of government. Cargile will explore some of the reasons for the notable numbers as well as some of the reasons for this gap in female leadership in state and local government bodies.
